Complementarios 2023 is an exhibition held at the Central de Diseño de Matadero Madrid organised by Di.mad and the Community of Madrid. It pairs sixteen complements and garments, which seek to give each other visibility and conceptualise each other.
It brings together established and emerging talents and broadens the perspective by connecting each design with its complementary, exploring technical, aesthetic, functional, social and cultural dimensions. Themes such as tradition, sustainability, material culture, interculturality and memory emerge in dialogues about the values and needs that design can address today.
This exhibition has been designed to have a minimal impact on the environment, so only 148 vegetable crates have been used:
148 vegetable crates that interrupt their circular cycle to raise the raised technical floor. There is no exhibition furniture.
17.4 m2 of 100% recycled, PVC-free polyester canvas to cover the walkway and identify the pieces.
3.9 m2 of 100% recyclable vinyl for the exterior signage.
217 m2 of 80 gr/m2 paper, 100% recycled, chlorine-free bleached and FSC certified, for leaflets printed with minimal ink deposition.
12 pre-existing luminaires, a few reused perspex display cabinets and a couple of spotlights.
