dZ - Transformable Trolley & Stand for an Ecovillage

Kerem İnak

According to Global Ecovillage Network’s (GEN) definition, an ecovillage is “an intentional or traditional community using local participatory processes to holistically integrate ecological, economic, social, and cultural dimensions of sustainability in order to regenerate social and natural environments.” One aim of these villages is to achieve sustainable agricultural production and sale in the initial phase. In this context, self-production at home comes to the fore. These self-produced products include fruits and vegetables, textile products, and other kinds of handmade objects.

These products are offered to the public in places such as outdoor village markets, exhibition or sales areas at the entrance of the villages or outside the village, contributing to the ecovillage economy.

One of the needs identified at this point is a product recommendation that can sustainably assist in this process and cycle. dZ is a transformable product to be used in an ecovillage for various purposes.

such as carrying, selling, and exhibiting. It offers people an opportunity to demonstrate and sell their handmade products or fruits/vegetables they collect from their gardens. It is made of plywood and OSB plates, designed to be easily produced and assembled also by those who live in the ecovillage.

Two main parts of the product are coded with two different wood types to indicate different functions. The CNC-cut plywood part defines the main structure of the product, and there are attachment holes on it to connect with the plates.

The chest/shelf part consists of OSB plates that are easily separated from the structure. The side walls of the chest are used as shelves when the trolley turns into an exhibition stand.

One of the plates also lock the rotating part without needing an extra joint mechanism.
