Ethics for Survivors

Un Mundo Feliz / Sonia Díaz y Gabriel Martínez

Ethics for Aliens & Survivors (Towapo) is a book on Visual Culture and graphic activism; it has been published by Ediciones Complutense on the occasion of the exhibition Towapo: A Happy World 1999-2019.

This book is the fourth published by the collective Un Mundo Feliz. Throughout its 172 full-color pages it presents more than 300 reflective images. It is a compendium that deals with ethics from a political and activist perspective.

For the authors, the poetic attitude, the creative impulse, the desire for happiness and the genesis of new rights are the work of an intelligence that creates dignity through poetic rationality; ethics has no meaning without the right to a dignified life, the right to an intelligently free life and the right to seek personal happiness.

This book brings together a representative part of the work of the graphic artivists UMF, who have a career of more than two decades dedicated to looking at and questioning what surrounds us.

Un Mundo Feliz conceives design as an element of transformation and social commitment, exploring from art the current issues that are mostly controversial. The contents do not leave us indifferent, the topics addressed are real and close and their messages make us think, laugh and cry.

They question what they have sold us, which in most cases is not in tune with our reality, and they expect us, as active spectators, to confront them and participate. The language is direct and open, based on visual communication and direct cultural action.

Sonia y Gabriel son activistas culturales, autores, editores, investigadores, comisarios especializados en diseño gráfico y diseñadores en LSDspace y el colectivo Un Mundo Feliz.…
