#SAYNOTOPALMOIL

Céline van Bakel

Around 50 per cent of the packaged products sold in supermarkets contain palm oil. However, not many people are aware of the irreparable harm that palm oil industry is causing to our environment.

The goal of this project is to raise awareness of the damage that the palm oil industry causes: deforestation, peatland destruction, extinction of many animal species (like Orangutans) and foreign tribes.

In order to spread this information in a way that reaches as many people as possible, three different mediums — posters, book & website — are brought up to put a protest based on informed awareness in order to change attitude, more specifically purchasing behavior, with consumers.

In the graphic mediums, the harmful products are visualized in a personal abstract languageand categorized in four different stages, divided by colour code from white to black, to show and teach the reader the darker the colour gets the more damaging the products are for the fauna and flora.

Further there will be published a list of +500 other names of palm oil that are hiding the truth.

As a graphic designer Céline is always observing things that she sees or are happening around her. This translates in an abstract language, everyone can read the language even if they do not speak the same one.

This language is used to tell about the things she sees, feels and problems in the world she thinks everyone needs to know about.
