Recuperate

Jens De Sneyder

The Recuperate concept originated from the observation that temporary events consume a significant volume of drinking water and, despite the numerous green and sustainable initiatives, there are few solutions available for the event sector that use rainwater as a water source.

The Recuperate concept is a combination of a collecting element with folding sails to collect rainwater that is placed on a toilet container that can immediately use the rainwater as flushing water for the toilets and washbasins.

The toilet container has five toilets, two for women, two for men and a gender-inclusive toilet. Each toilet room has a water-saving flush toilet and its own washbasin. All contact surfaces work with infrared sensors to create more hygiene.

The waste bin under the washbasin, the toilet roll holder, the holder for extra toilet rolls and the coat rack are all made of stainless steel. Above the washbasin there is a smart mirror on which the user can read how much water has been used after his or her toilet visit and it is also communicated on the outside how much water has been collected and already saved.

Flexible solar panels are fitted to the unfolding tarpaulins and these, in combination with an internal large battery, allow the collection element and toilet container to operate off-grid.

Both parts can be used together or separately, but it is the combination of the two that involves sustainable water management. The collecting element can be placed on other 20 foot containers to collect rainwater or the toilet container can be used alone by pumping surface water from a neighboring river or pond for reuse after filtering.

The Recuperate concept is extremely mobile and ensures that in the future even more events can focus on sustainability and ecology. It is a concept that can be implemented at any event and has a diverse landscape of users.

It is especially the latter, trying to be as universal as possible, that creates a valuable concept and makes a positive contribution to the product range of solutions specific to the water cycle of events.
