Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao is the Bilbao Society and Contemporary Culture Centre. It has a local and international outlook, open to dialogue with different communities of publics.
It is also the place to live culture as a practice, process and space for experiences.
This cultural project is set within the city’s old wine and oil warehouse, a modernist early 20th century building, whose external classicism contrasts with the original sober urban habitat of its interior, designed by French designer Philippe Starck. A contemporary space, much of whose essence is upheld in the atmosphere.
Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao connects society and contemporary culture through 6 programme lines: Contemporary Art, Live Arts, Film & Audio-visuals, Society, Digital Culture and Literature. They all dialogue among each other to generate an expanded multiple hybrid programme, which favours the everyday nature of that which is contemporary, with mediation and education as channels to generate critical knowledge and transform society through art and artists.
