1/4 is a small studio based in Porto, founded by Ana Mota and Jorge Araújo in 2019. We specialize in brand identity, editorial design, typography and calligraphy. Our process ranges across different media and is very centered on experimentation that spans between the analogue and the digital.
At the centre of our practice is a concern with how language is made visible. We pay close and careful attention to typography. We just love type. Besides this, our work extends to teaching, research, publishing, and printing — from letterpress and silkscreening to RISO and everything in between.
How do we do things? We ask a lot of questions. We research and experiment. We test formats and materials. We engage in conversation with our clients so that, together, we can find the best solution to the problem.
Every project is always somewhere between craft and technology, analogue and digital, rationality and intuition, order and chaos.
