Ocupa Gallery is a project that was born to challenge the concept of the white-cube gallery by occupying different locations throughout the city of Porto. The spaces that are occupied keep their characteristics presenting a challenge to both the artists and the spectators.
This is a project that is subverting the "rules" of what a gallery is, should or can be. The visual identity developed aims to reflect the subversive nature of the project. As a starting point, we referred to the technique of letterpress; we did this because, when compositing in letterpress, it is quite common that you run out of letters.
It is also quite common to use letters from other cases (typefaces) to literally fill/occupy the spaces left by the missing letters, which often results in interesting, subversive compositions.
That was how the logo began to take shape. We also opted for raw, cheap materials, as they related to the nature of the project. These were used in the business cards and other stationary materials.
