T.I.N.A. - This Is Not America is an independent art & design studio based in Porto (Portugal), established in 2013 by Elias Marques & Sérgio Correia, both graphic designers and educators. T.I.N.A. questions and criticises the established ideals, rises contemporary issues teasing out society through ephemeral or permanent urban interventions called “This Is Not America”. Using graphic "weapons", spaces are occupied with messages and subliminal images, taking advantage of the elements related to the project’s identity, a statement by itself. Despite an assumed reinterpretation of the American symbology, this identity reflects a national critical approach, with the introduction of the traditional cock instead of the American eagle. The acronym T.I.N.A. emphasises that national dimension, remembering the abbreviation of a popular Portuguese name. It is inspired by the song "This Is Not America" by David Bowie / Pat Metheny, and the movie, "The Falcon and the Snowman" by John Schlesinger, both from 1985. T.I.N.A.’s projects have been exhibited and awarded all over the world, from Bolivia to Taiwan, Ecuador, U.S.A., Poland, France, with special emphasis on the Graphis Merit Award (2017), the Graphis Silver Award (2018) and the Communication Arts Award of Excellence (2018 and 2020).
