Creativity and Innovation Affairs

T.I.N.A. - This Is Not America

“Are they or are they not? Creativity and Innovation Affairs” is a book dedicated to ambiguous binomials related to various topics of creativity and innovation.
One of the initial triggers for the conceptual approach of the book was the perceived ambiguity of the binomials Design vs.

Design Thinking and Innovation vs. Invention.
Frequently, designers and innovation consultants are questioned by their clients about the relationships between these kind of concepts.

Has the second emerged through the first, or vice-verse? Is one part of the other? Where are the similarities and which are the differences? This conceptual incomprehension makes itself noticeable between many ambiguous concepts in the world of innovation and creativity.

By means of a collection of ambiguous binomials of various current creativity and innovation topics (social, cultural, ecological, economic, industrial, etc. ), the authors of this book want to contribute to the discussion by clarifying several prominent concepts.

They do this by questioning current definitions and perceptions, by comparing different sources and ideas, or simply by giving their personal opinions. The design of the book follows the idea of exploring visual binomials, through a graphic interpretation.

An all type approach defines the mood of the book, where a stencil typeface contrasts with a regular version, main texts plays a racional function while pullouts evokes an emotional approach avoiding the use of images.

Color is explored in gradients between red and electric blue, suggesting some of the concept’s definitions which are not so opposite at all. Some special effects such as edge printing were added in the production fase, in an attempt to tease users to interact with the object.
