The Buried Dream

It must have been the fate that we live in Iran. The geography that defines the boundaries of our dreams. In this land, we are doomed to live without liberty, breath without peace, and wish without hope of fulfilling them.

This geographical determinism is a limitation on the entirety of us, especially if we are women. Women in Iran are sentenced to unbelievable and harsh punishment due to the smallest and most natural desires.

Lack of acceptable hijab in this society, singing, playing a musical instrument, running, and even riding a bicycle can be a sufficient justification for imprisonment, deportation, and even execution.

The animation of Buried Dream is derived from my personal experiences, the disparities, and the limitations that I have encountered during my life as an Iranian woman. From all the restrictions on women of this land, I choose cycling which can be regarded as a symbol of liberation and happiness.

This work is a reminder of women who buried their great dream of achieving freedom with themselves.

My interest in art is rooted in my adolescence. One of my sisters is a painter, and another one is a writer; my mother used to do handicrafts and she made very special dolls that were full of colors and textures.

Growing up in this atmosphere, I became acquainted with art. Besides, living in the mountainous city Ardabil located in the northwest of Iran with spectacular nature and exquisite handicrafts had always kept my interest in art alive.
